My name's Dylan and my partner Hannah will be joining me on our first LARP for the May event! I'm very excited, I wanted to come to the first event but I was helping organize a paintball club and life got busy. As for introductions I've been playing TTRPGs for about 13 years and have DMd for over half of that time for several parties. I did a bit of school and community theater when I lived in Ohio. In college I participated a few times at Amtgard fighter practices but never got too much into it. I've played paintball for about 15 years and enjoyed scenario play (paintball Larp) the most. Wargaming and roleplaying are my favorite hobbies so LARP just seems like a natural progression!
As for characters, I figured I would run something simple and combat oriented for starters since I need to learn LARPing and roleplaying in a live environment first. I have some kit already from Renn fairs that is somewhat Scottish or celtic in appearance, so I was thinking of being from Sorjund for sure. For simplicity sakes I was thinking Alloyim as well. It's simple, but I think it's best for a first character. To keep along with those ideas of simplicity, I was thinking of focusing on a melee oriented build with as little complexities as I can build. Maybe go for High HP, a basic strike that can help me slow down combat when I need a moment, then once I build up my kit a bit go for armor. Crafting, magic, or other things I think I'll avoid at first but then learn about them as I get the basics down. For guilds, I figured the military guild would get me into the game and action the fastest.
If anyone is looking for a couple newbie apprentices to help, we'd be more than happy to help out!
Are you coming to the May event as a new player? We are going to hold an video chat Wednesday, May 8th from 8pm til 10pm where will give you direct access to Storytellers and Directors to get you the information you, and your character, need in order to make the most out of your first event. We will go over character sheets, character backgrounds, and then also give you some backstory that gets you ready to hit the ground running at the May event.
We will have two of these sessions if necessary. Stay tuned to this forum for possible schedule changes as folks have time etc...
Please do not worry about, or plan to attend this event, unless you are staff or new players. Thank you
